Science World is one of Vancouver’s biggest land marks. It has been on my list of the buildings I would like to photograph for a while and when I was selected to do the work by Cannon Design I was ready for the challenge. This is a building which is photographed by hundreds if not thousands of people every year. I wanted to find my own unique angles and to find the right times of the day in which this exceptional building really shines. Working around the hundreds of children that are running trough the building’s many interesting exhibits was quite challenging and in the same time using all the blurred figures in the shots worked so well to give the building life.

We have been very busy doing some really interesting residential and commercial project and not a lot of time for the blog, hope to be able to catch up and to show you what we have created.

This amazing home is located in the wonderful Pemberton Heights on the North Shore of Vancouver. Every time I passed by the area I admired this specific house. Often when you step foot in homes like this I always wonder how are we going to be able to capture all of the angles that I can see. The key is to truly look trough the viewfinder and really see the room, see every detail, every possible lighting condition, the way the furniture will look the best, how we can make the already fabulous spaces shine. The key for me is always understanding what the architect was inspired by, what the designer wanted to say, what the owner added of their own and how I can use what they have created to show the true atmosphere!

We had a really fun shoot in this home. The image that I truly enjoyed lighting is the bathroom shot where we decided just for fun to add a disco ball. At dusk using some spot hot lights and lighting the floor as well the whole room started to sparkle. It really looked like night sky full of millions of stars! Always good to have some fun and do something more different!

Chilliwack Cultural Centre which we photographed for Kasian Architecture definitely has the wow factor with the stunning red color used throughout the building. We very rarely have the opportunity to shoot behind the scene in a theater and in this shoot we went high above where all the lights and projectors are and had a very unique perspective towards the theater. Probably one of the most fun shoots we had recently in this truly exceptional building.

The Nicola Lake House was one of those really incredible locations where it seemed that there are endless angles to shoot from. I could have spent days there. The clean, perfect lines of the architecture where fantastic for creating very strong compositions we only needed to wait for the perfect times of the day when the light worked the best and add in our little touches and lighting.

Our only challenge was managing to shoot the home within one day and the biggest challenge getting there as it seem our team has a talent for getting lost. Even when we have the best possible directions.

One of our favorite buildings we shot recently is the Jim Pattison Centre of Excellence – Okanagan. The centre is one of the greenest buildings in the world. The building aspires to be the first of its type to achieve the Living Building Challenge, the very highest standard for sustainable construction, which requires proof of true carbon neutrality. The building truly glows at night, another fabulously lit building by the lighting engineering company Applied Engineering. The architect for the project is CEI Architecture.

We were contracted to complete the architectural and interior photography for the expansion and renovation of one of the greatest landmarks in Vancouver – Science World for the talented team of Cannon Design.

This has always been one of my favorite buildings and having the opportunity to observe it in all possible lighting conditions and times of day, from the many vantage points where the building is visible, has been a dream. The new architecture of the building is striking, modern and bold.

We where very happy to photograph another amazing residential property in Vancouver. This projects was finished by Best Builders Ltd and Architrix Design Studio Incorporated. I particularly love this project and admire it not only because it is phenomenally well designed and built but also because of the incredible, artistic family which lives in this little zen oasis in Vancouver. Every little touch they have added to the property makes it even more exceptional. We just added some sunlight and enjoyed every minute of photographing this home.

Couple of days ago in a middle of a meeting with an owner of an interior design company in Vancouver we started discussing interior design details and photography. It is so important to be able to see not only the “big picture”, showing off a space could be done by capturing the atmosphere and its essence in the little details. I always find those are as important to capture and probably the most fun to look for. Once a location is well lit and the main shots done we can always have a little bit of time to zoom in and do a detail or two. Most of the large magazines prefer if the project have variety of angles and crops to make the project look more interesting and engaging for the viewer.
